Fair Trade Café WAKUWAKU has started recruiting One-Day Chef candidates from November 1.

Anyone who likes to cook, or who wants to run a shop/restaurant in the future, regardless of age, sex, or nationality, please come and try out this project. Professional chefs, amateurs, students, friends and family members are all welcome.

●Sat 14th November: Explanatory meeting of the "One-Day Chef" project
For anyone interested in being a "One-Day Chef", please join us.
Date: Saturday 14 Nov 2009
Time: 15:00-17:00
Place: Fairtrade Cafe & Shop WAKUWAKU (Shinonome-cho 5-6)

●What is the “One-Day Chef” project?
This is a way of running a community restaurant where local people cook with local ingredients and serve the customers. Currently, some 70 restaurants have introduced this practice nationwide to promote community building and increase the use of local produce. It has been drawing attention recently.

This project aims to contribute to improved community relationships, providing a place to eat with others, esp. important for those who often eat alone eg. elderly people, students etc. It also strives to raise awareness about food security and safety. Moreover the project aims to help people find hope, inspiration and fun, as well as provide an opportunity to solve local problems.

●How to become a “One-Day Chef” for WAKUWAKU
First, register yourself as a One-Day Chef. Do this by submitting your menu and other relevant details using the registration form (please contact the restaurant).
On the agreed day you can use the kitchen and cook your unique dishes (usually for lunch) to serve to the customers according to the amount and price range set by WAKUWAKU. The chef will take care of purchasing ingredients, cooking, waiting on the customers, washing dishes, and even, if desired, decorating the shop.
We would like you to prepare enough for about 20 people. When the food is sold out, the service is over. For those who are interested but are lacking in confidence, you are welcome to assist the other chefs or share with a partner. Help can also be provided. For details and queries, please contact us.

So, for anyone who likes to cook, who wants to use special ingredients, who would like to share what you grow in your garden, who wants to introduce your country’s special meals, who is interested in international cooperation, who likes to meet others etc., welcome!

N.B. If you are interested but cannot join us on the 14th, please get in touch a.s.a.p.
